The most powerful word of affirmation is ‘I’. When manifesting, setting goals or doing anything else involving affirmations, it’s one of those precious times in life when it really is all about you. As discussed in our guide to writing the best possible affirmations, every statement begins with ‘I’ or ‘my’.

While you can try to manifest for others and share your personal goals, perhaps even working together as a team, your focus must always be on your goals as while you have dominion over your own surroundings; your affirmations won’t have a significant impact on the existence of others.

You’re Central to Your Affirmations

Affirmations are statements of what you want. Whether that’s material gains, like houses and cars, or emotions like confidence and motivation, ‘I’ and ‘my’ bring outstanding clarity to the manifestation process.

The most challenging part of forming an affirmation is getting started, but this is one of those tasks that requires people to start. Affirmations can’t go wrong, so starting and making a mistake is far preferable to never starting at all. Even if you’ve got writer’s block, the simple act of writing down ‘I’ or ‘my’ on a sheet of paper, in a journal, or even on your phone will bring you one word closer to a complete and successful affirmation.

You’re at the center of the universe when it comes to affirmations, and they work incredibly well with other techniques. You might want to get started on numerology (our article on the meaning of 777 is a great place to start getting an idea of what to do), which turns affirmations into a two-way street – you send messages to the universe, and it responds in the best way possible. You’ll receive reassurance and guidance in the process, enabling you to improve your affirmations yet further!

Even if you’ve just got started with affirmations and that’s your target for the time being, that’s no reason not to get started immediately! Decide what you want to achieve and make it clear in your mind, while being as specific as possible.

5 Other Powerful Affirmation Words

Naturally, you won’t get far with just a single word. ‘I’ alone won’t change anything in your life itself unless you’re not you for some reason!

A great affirmation doesn’t have to be long. “I am motivated” is one of the most common, not to mention most popular affirmations in the world, and it’s only three words. With ‘I’ on the page, you’ve already completed a third of an affirmation relied upon by thousands of people worldwide.

The more specific your goal, the longer your affirmation might become. However, even the most targeted affirmations tend to share plenty in common. Here are five words that are virtually as powerful as ‘I’ when putting an affirmation together:

1. Am

Affirmations are all about living in the present. Author Jack Canfield, a prominent individual in the law of attraction world, refers to ‘I’ and ‘am’ as the most powerful words in the English language. I’d personally give the nod to ‘I’ alone, but the point stands.

‘Am’ indicates the present and is often the go-to word for affirming just about anything. Affirmations famously require those making them to live their dream, even if it hasn’t happened yet.

If you’re waiting to hear back from a job application, an affirmation may state, “I am delighted to be doing my dream job.” If you can make it more specific, such as mentioning the job itself, that’s even better.

2. Grateful

Gratitude is one of the most common positive emotions used in affirmations, and you can cover all the bases by stating outright that you’re grateful for something. But, again, you’ve already received it as far as your affirmations are concerned, and you’re incredibly thankful to have done so.

It’s worth trying to notice how saying or writing ‘gratitude’ makes you feel if you’re inexperienced with affirmations. As I always say, affirmations are more about feelings than specific words. So if ‘gratitude’, as in the word itself, doesn’t make you feel positive, try alternatives like ‘thankful’. Alternatively, you can eliminate gratitude altogether in favour of other positive emotions, such as delight or excitement.

3. Now

Once again, you need to frame affirmations in the present. The universe, which makes your affirmations happen if you’re into the law of attraction, doesn’t follow the human time concept. Just because something hasn’t happened to you yet in your reality doesn’t mean it hasn’t as far as the universe is concerned.

Suppose you’re using affirmations to manifest quickly. In that case, the word ‘now’ can carry the added benefit of speeding up delivery once you repeat it often enough for it to reside firmly in your subconscious.

4. Living

I’ve chosen living, but it really could be any word ending with ‘-ing’. These words work perfectly in affirmations on multiple fronts. First, living is pretty good in its own right – it certainly beats dying! It can also introduce a further personal touch by representing what you live for. For example, you might live to travel or spend time with your family. No matter your personal goals, words like ‘living’ will come to mind when you state an affirmation.

The secondary benefit is that words ending in ‘-ing’ usually reinforce the presence of affirmations. If you’re living, you’re doing it right now. You’re not looking to the past with ‘lived’, and you’re not affirming something staying just out of your grasp in the future with ‘will live’.

5. Happy

I get that not everyone is interested in the law of attraction and manifesting. You don’t have to be a fan of either for affirmations to work – they can be nothing more than a personal pep talk. However, the overriding goal with sharing articles on affirmations, the law of attraction and more is to make people happy, or at least content.

I believe that these techniques can help to make people happy, even if they have no scientific basis.

Happiness is a fantastic inclusion in an affirmation because, just like living, it’s flexible. It means different things to different people. But, you know what makes you happy, and by affirming happiness, the universe can interpret your dreams and desires on your behalf.

What Is the Most Powerful Word of Affirmation? – In Summary

Affirmations are all about you, and that’s why every great affirmation starts with ‘I’ or ‘my’. Don’t spend time trying to affect things out of your control. You don’t need to be selfish by any means, but no matter what change you want to influence on the world, it all starts with you.

Your affirmations shouldn’t attempt to impact anyone else directly, so get yourself in order first and get your well-earned fill of the universe’s abundance. Then, when you’re happy and content, you’ll have all the tools you need to bring about positive change in any way you see fit.
